Major Cattle Company
Some of the accomplishments the Major horse program has produced include a 2005 cutting horse national and world show qualifier ridden by Holly. As already mentioned, in 2006 Mike was crowned world champion in working cow horse at the AQHA/Bayer Select World Show. In 2007 both Mike and Holly again qualified for the AQHA World Show in the cow horse and cutting. Also in 2007 Mike was crowned reserve world champion at the AQHA Versatility Ranch Horse World Show, and Holly received the bronze for finishing third in the amateur division. The following two years Mike claimed the World Championship title in VRH. Also in 2010, Mike won the first-ever Battle in the Saddle Ranch Remuda Challenge, and the first ever Project Cowboy competition.
Throughout the last few years the couple has also earned many other championships at state fairs and numerous shows. They firmly believe, “God has blessed us both tremendously through both our family and our horses, and we give all the glory and thanks to God’s love and support. We would never be where we are today without him. We continually strive to build and improve the horse program, hoping to always produce top-quality horses in the performance and ranching industry as it is a passion of both of us. We encourage everyone to come and visit the ranch, and look at the colts we have worked so hard to raise.”
Although the horses are a huge part of the ranch, the ranch is still a working cattle ranch. Every year, Mike and Holly work hard running a large yearling cattle operation on the Flying A Ranch and a large cow/calf operation on the Rio Puerco Ranch in Belen, New Mexico. Like the horses, the cattle have always been a main part of all the ranches. In the future, they believe anyone seeing an animal with the Stik horse brand will know the quality and care that stands behind the mark.
Versatility Ranch Horse
Mike Major and Smart Whiskey Doc, Fowler, Colo., won the 2010 Versatility Ranch Horse World Championship.
Battle in the Saddle
